Good morning,
Thank you for offering support to Bristol Community College (BCC) and the Joseph A. Marshall Veterans Center. Please reach out if you want to share your story for the Veterans History Project or speak at the upcoming Veterans Town Hall. First, thank you for your service. Your input is vital to the Veterans History Project for preserving history and the story of our veterans for generations to come. The two gentlemen CC’d in this email are coordinating both events and I will also provide their information below. They will be serving as your POC to the Veterans Center during the semester as the SkillBridge Interns at Bristol Community College.
Over the next several months, we’ll be looking to organize various events, ranging from speaking engagements with the military-affiliated student population to professional development outings. The first event is the Veterans History Project (VHP) on Wednesday, March 27, from 1-3 p.m., located at the main Bristol Community College campus in Fall River. The second is the Veterans Town Hall on Wednesday, April 24, from 6-8 p.m. The event will be held at the Bristol Community College campus in Attleboro.
If these dates and times do not work for the Veterans History Project we can be flexible and find a date that works for both of us. Your story is important and the date and time presented are to have the studio available with professional cameras and lighting. Ultimately, the story is more important, and we are dedicated to ensuring you have that availability.
For Background, the United States Congress created the VHP in 2000 as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. VHP collects, preserves, and makes accessible the firsthand remembrances of U.S. military veterans from World War I through the more recent conflicts. As military veterans, you’re eligible to have your stories documented and submitted to the Library of Congress so that future generations may hear directly from you as a U.S. military veteran and better understand your service. More information can be found at Veterans History Project (Library of Congress) (loc.gov) [loc.gov] [nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com].
On March 27, 1300-1500, the BCC Fall River campus will be hosting opportunities for veterans to be paired with traditional BCC students to record a 45-minute interview for VHP submission. The BCC interviewers will be active-duty interns at the college or Spring 2024 Semester students in various history courses. They will provide them with a unique opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of military experiences. Interview blocks will be scheduled in one-hour increments, recorded by the BCC TV Services Staff, and submitted directly to the Library of Congress. Interview questions will be tailored to each veteran and discussed in a preparation session between the veteran and student interviewer before the VHP event.
I have put the link below to sign up for the town hall along with contact information if you do have any questions. Thank you again for your service and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
