The American Soldier is a one-man dramatic production that reveals
American soldiers’ struggles at war and explores the bravery our veter-
ans and their families face when they try to return home and re-enter
civilian life. Based on actual letters written by veterans and their fami-
lies. It has been nominated for an Amnesty International Award and
performed at The Kennedy Center in 2016 & 2019, The Library of
Congress twice, Off-Broadway, New York Federal Reserve Bank, and
American Legion’s National Headquarters. It has been featured in the
Washington Post, Huffington Post, Broadway World, Playbill, Mili-
tary Times, Washington Times, and Time Out, to name a few.
About the Artist:
Douglas Taurel recently played Joe Petito in the TV Movie, The
Gabby Petito Story. He worked opposite Thora Birch, who also
directed the film. He has appeared in numerous television shows and
movies, in-cluding The Affair, The Americans, Blue Bloods, Nurse
Jackie, Mr. Ro-bot, The Cobbler (Adam Sandler and Dustin Hoffman),
and The Kindergarten Teacher (Maggie Gyllenhaal). He’s been
nominated for an Innovative Theatre Award and recently earned Best
Actor at the GI Film Festival for his TV series Landing Home which
he wrote, starred in, and directed. It tells the story of a Veteran learning
how to adjust once out of the Military. You can view Landing

of Congress com-missioned him to write and perform his second solo
show, An Ameri-can Soldier’s Journey Home. It commemorates the
ending of the First World War.
